Montbéliarde

The second-largest French dairy breed by headcount, the Montbéliarde produces protein-rich milk and offers excellent cheesemaking qualities.

Average production in 2014: 7,100 kg of milk in 305 days; butterfat: 38.4 g/L; protein: 32.7 g/L.

A large-framed breed, it ranks first among the European red-and-white population (Simmental, Fleckvieh, etc.) in terms of milk production. It is fertile and highly resistant to udder infections.

A dual-purpose breed, it produces a high-quality carcass that ensures strong value for young animals (veal calves, weaned calves, young cattle) as well as cull animals.

Crossed with a beef-breed bull, the Montbéliarde produces excellent-quality beef animals.
